About this event
KTIRION 53 presents the Cyprus premiere of British writer Alistair McDowall's play "All of It". Written in 2020, it was first staged at the Royal Court theatre in London; in 2023 it returned there as part of a poetic trilogy by the writer, which then travelled to the Avignon Festival. After the first run of ten performances, the last six of them sold out, and due to increased demand seven additional dates are added. The play unfolds as a stream-of-consciousness monologue, a flood of thoughts and images rising from the narrator's mind in an unbroken flow. Elliptical at times, fragmented at others, associative and repetitive, the thought-memory that turns into speech captures with humour, awkwardness, honesty, directness and tenderness the journey of an unnamed woman from birth to the moment of final parting. It maps the course of the character through all the stages of human life: infancy and childhood, adolescence and adulthood, with all they may include – curiosity, uncertainty, revolutions, menstruation, sexuality, marriage, motherhood, divorce, the routine of everyday life, loss and death. The play's experimental form, which illuminates the torrent of the character's unconscious and the reconstruction of memory, keeps the audience constantly alert and serves as a reminder that life moves at great speed and slips through our hands like a grain of sand.
