How it is worked out
From the gross salary come the employee's social insurance (8.8%, up to the maximum insurable earnings of €68,904 a year) and the GeSY contribution (2.65%, up to €180,000 a year). Both contributions are also taken off taxable income, up to one fifth of the income. Income tax is then charged on the rest, band by band:

What is not included
The new 2026 deductions for children, rent or mortgage interest and energy upgrades (they depend on family income), the 20% and 50% exemptions for people who move to Cyprus for a job, provident funds, union fees and other income. With these your tax can be lower.

- How much income is tax-free in 2026?
- Taxable income up to €22,000 a year pays no income tax. Above it the rates are 20%, 25%, 30% and 35%.
- How much social insurance does an employee pay?
- 8.8% of gross pay, up to the maximum insurable earnings (€68,904 a year). The employer pays its own contribution on top.
- How much is the GeSY contribution?
- 2.65% of the employee's pay, up to €180,000 a year.
- Does the 13th salary count?
- Yes. If you are paid 13 salaries, your yearly income is the monthly salary times 13, and tax is worked out on the total.
