Good to know
How many wine routes are there?
Seven official routes, created by the tourism authority around the island’s wine regions and the grape varieties native to each, most of them in the foothills of Troodos.
Which grapes are native to Cyprus?
The best known are Xynisteri (white), Mavro (red) and Maratheftiko (red). Several routes also grow international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
What is Commandaria?
A sweet wine from the Commandaria villages on the southern slopes of Troodos, made from Mavro and Xynisteri grapes. Its own route passes through the villages that make it.
Can I visit the wineries?
Many wineries welcome visitors, but opening times differ. Check with each winery before you go, and choose a driver who does not drink.
